For D.T.S.M. and its owner Chris Dougherty, the driving school is "Where Learning is Doing". Chris started his career in driver training in England back in 1963. He was already an experienced instructor when he, along with his wife and three children, came to Canada. He founded D.T.S.M. Driving School in 1981 which, by the way stands for (Driver Training School of Motoring). Not only has the company grown to over 30 cars, D.T.S.M has also won the Consumers Choice Award for business excellence in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.Thank You Ottawa.
The complete driver training courses at D.T.S.M. consist of 20 hours of in-class education and 7 hours of at home assignments and 13 hours of private in-car training on automatic vehicles or 15 hours of private in-car training on manual transmission vehicles.
All training courses are conducted according to the standards set by the Ministry of Transportation. Upon completion of a D.T.S.M. course, each student as of October 2008 will be certified electronically with the M.T.O, this will provide proof of completion which allows a student to take their driving test in (8) months at the Ministry of Transport instead of waiting (1) full year. Once a student is certified this will allow the student to order a driver license history, from the M.T.O. which is needed to provide proof for the insurance which also brings about a reduction of up to 40% or more on insurance premiums. Please note the M.T.O. will charge $12.00 for the DLH (Drivers License History).

At D.T.S.M. Driving Schools, Our main objective is to train all students to become good, safe, defensive drivers.
D.T.S.M. also participates in the community High School Driver Education Programs.
Chris is proud of his involvement in the Driving School Association Of Ontario and as a past President and Director helping to set the high standards.
Chris is also the Chief Instructor For The Ministry of Transportation and in this capacity he trains future Driving Instructors.
